Raise is currently hiring a Distribution Regional Engineer (LMN) on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader. Our Client, is one of the largest electrical energy suppliers in Canada.

Note: The primary pay rate is based on the rate for an incorporated contractor who owns their own business. However, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in a T4 arrangement, where applicable.

Description 

The Distribution Regional Engineer (LMN Region) in this role will be a qualified and accredited engineering professional responsible for providing comprehensive distribution engineering services that support the daily operations, maintenance, repair, and expansion of the organizations Distribution System within the LMN Region. The role requires a strong focus on both overhead and underground electric utility distribution systems operating at voltages at or below 35kV. The engineer will provide essential operational support and engineering solutions for both daily operational requests and larger customer/capital projects.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will apply theoretical and practical knowledge to ensure engineering design, estimating, planning, and quality management services are delivered safely, with quality, within budget, and on time. Key responsibilities include:

  • Engineering Solutions & Design: Develop and recommend safe engineering solutions for low to medium complexity assignments by performing activities such as developing designs, analyzing and resolving engineering problems, and interpreting technical specifications.
  • Operational & Maintenance Support: Provide technical support for the operation, maintenance, repair, replacement, and expansion of the organizations Distribution System, including providing technical guidance, instruction, and assistance for troubleshooting and modifications of equipment.
  • System Analysis & Problem Solving: Investigate, analyze, and solve a variety of engineering problems, including more challenging and unusual scenarios, by developing engineering techniques, devising new approaches, and/or applying existing criteria in new ways. Perform system analysis to inform decisions.
  • Project Management Assistance: Assist project and operations management in meeting safety, cost, quality, and time objectives by preparing progress reports, coordinating work schedules, recommending payment for work completed by contractors, and proposing changes in plans and estimated costs.
  • Quality & Compliance: Perform periodic tasks independently, which may include on-site construction quality control and monitoring to ensure design compliance with engineering specifications and standards.
  • Engineering Practice: Maintain engineering standards by conducting independent studies and analyses, exercising judgment in selecting and interpreting information, recommending safe engineering designs, and making typical decisions related to standard methods and designs.
  • Risk Management: Engage with senior engineering team for consultation where engineering problems are difficult, complex, or unusual to support effective management of engineering risk.

Qualifications

  • 4 years of in a relevant engineering field with demonstrated experience and technical knowledge in both Overhead and underground electric utility distribution systems operating at voltages at or below 35kV including automation
  • Broad range of distribution related skills including planning, system engineering, protection engineering, design, and project management
  • Demonstrated ability to perform system analysis
  • Experience with Investigating analyzing and solving a variety of engineering problems, including the more challenging and unusual, by developing engineering techniques, devising new approaches and/or applying existing criteria in new ways
  • Assets to have:
    • Distribution Engineering experience
    • Utilities Experience
    • Worked with overhead modeling software (spidacalc, plscad)
  • Maintain Driver's License Class 5 throughout the term of the contract
  • Education and Skills 
    • Degree in Electrical Engineering recognized by universities in Canada, Power Engineering preferred
    • P.Eng and will be required to Provide Proof of Permit to Practice, registered with EGBC when hired

Additional Information

  • Candidates in this role will be working a hybrid schedule of 2 days a week in office (local candidates preferred) 
  • Willingness to travel as required by the assignment.
  • Every contractor must supply their own Windows 11 Laptop computer for the duration of the assignment.
  • Every contractor must supply their own “Smart Phone”. This is needed to gain access to the Organizations network.
